Western Region Starter Stakes Series

The Western Region final of the inaugural starter stakes series took place on Easter Monday in Milchem Equestrian Centre. The final was the culmination of 4 weeks of qualifiers with classes for 4 and 5 year old horses, 5 and 6 year old ponies and Thoroughbreds. The aim of the series was to raise the profile of Eventing in the West by providing breeders, owners and riders an opportunity to showcase horses and ponies that have the potential and attributes to become high class Eventers and to give young horses and ponies exposure to the elements of Eventing in an educational and confidence giving manner.

Qualifying legs took place at Claremorris, Clare, Galway and Milchem Equestrian Centres with 5 qualifying places available at each venue. Several of these centres are new to the sport of Eventing but all were superbly helpful in providing appropriate facilities, with all centres impressed with the format of the competitions and the quality of the horses on display.

Feedback from competitors and supporters was overwhelming – "Well thought out and setup as an introduction to Eventing", "super friendly helpful people", "massive congrats for organising an amazing league - horses learned so much", "wonderful series  - a joy to participate in - may it go from strength to strength”.

The final was judged by Claire Ryan and Dag Albert. Chris Ryan kept the spectators entertained all day with fantastic commentary, and Tadhg Ryan was on hand from Bit Media to film – each competitor received a complementary video of their round in the final. Dunlop Photography also provided amazing photographs free of charge.
